FORMAL PURPOSE, VISION, MISSION
Sertoma’s purpose is to meet the needs of communities through volunteer service.
Sertoma’s vision is to create communities of change under common leadership and with a common voice that will serve the many in need.
Sertoma’s mission is to improve the quality of life today, through education and support, for those at risk of or impacted by hearing loss.
Minot Sertoma Club
The name SERTOMA stands for SERvice TO MAnkind. Sertoma is an international service club with chartered clubs in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Every year Sertoma Clubs raise more than $20 million for local community service projects.
The Minot Sertoma Club was established in 1959 and has a growing membership of over 50 civic leaders committed to making a difference in our community.
Community Projects and Causes
The Minot Sertoma Club supports numerous community and youth oriented projects; to name a few: scholarships in Speech and Hearing studies at MSU, purchasing sound systems for use in local classrooms, the Minot Youth Baseball Complex, the Minot Vocational Adjustment Workshop, ND Center for Persons with Disabilities, Dreamcatchers Baseball Group and the Minot Family YMCA.
Fundraisers
The Minot Sertoma Club organizes two major fundraisers annually and dedicates the proceeds to help fund the many community causes the club supports. We conduct the Sertoma Seltzer and Beerfest and Christmas in the Park light celebration located in Oak Park each holiday season. All club members are asked to assist in these projects.
Monday Meetings
Minot Sertoma Club members meet each Monday at 12:00 noon at the Sleep Inn and Suites for a one hour luncheon. Guest speakers share an informative program with the club during these luncheons. Club business meetings are held the forth Monday of each month.
There is typically a Sergeant at Arms report prior to the program in which some club members are fined a minimal amount for various infractions. All of this is done in good fun and for the betterment of the club.
Dues are billed on a quarterly basis to cover the expense of the Monday luncheons
and all other membership expenses (ie: international dues). Current dues are
$125 per quarter.
