Over 50 Years of Service to Mankind in the Minot area.
Since 1959, the Minot Sertoma Club has donated more than $1 million to the Minot community and area. The Minot Sertoma Club, with the ultimate purpose of meeting the needs of the community through service, has a membership of over 50 civic leaders committed to making a difference and giving back to our community.
The Minot Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind) Club’s two large fundraisers are the Seltzer and Beerfest and Christmas in the Park.
The Seltzer and Beerfest is held each fall and has grown to more than 400 attendees. This is the perfect opportunity to have a taste of an IPA or sour beer and try the newest seltzer flavors to hit the market. There are more than 20 different varieties of craft beers and seltzers to sample, along with food, music, games and raffle items. This night doesn’t disappoint and has brought in more than $10,000 per year to the club.
Christmas in the Park is held annually from the day after Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve. This is as much fun for the club as it is for those who take a drive through the park to see the beautifully lighted displays. Sertoma members work hard for months to create new displays, set them up in the park and “man” the hut to greet those who drive through. This event is one that hundreds of people in the area look forward to each year and brings in about $60,000 each year.
Through these fundraisers, Minot Sertoma Club has been able to give back to the community in various ways, including:
· STEAM T-ball League sponsor
· Pediatric waiting room at the new Trinity Hospital
· Minot Youth Baseball Complex
· ND Center for Persons with Disabilities
· Dreamcatchers Baseball group
- Minot Family YMCA
- Keith White Sertoma Softball complex
- MSU Dome (walking/running track)
- MAYSA Arena
- Hands & Voices Hearing Aid Loaner Bank
- Minot State University Foundation
- Induction Loop at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall, the MSU Amphitheater and Burning Hills Amphitheater in Medora
In addition, the Minot Sertoma Club has funded yearly scholarships in Speech and Hearing studies at Minot State University, as well as purchasing sound systems and hearing equipment for local classrooms.
The Minot Sertoma Club works hard but we do have fun! We have a monthly evening social in the summer months and everyone is invited to bring a guest. We have gained some valuable members through our social events.
It’s through the generosity of our event sponsors and participants that we’re able to give back and make our community a better place to live.
Sertoma Club was founded in 1912 by three Kansas City, MO, businessmen and a newspaper publisher who enticed community leaders to “get involved.” Now in its second Century of Service, Sertoma community leaders are engaged in improving the quality of life in communities by making a difference for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
